Recently, a new Pay Per Click provider showed up, it is called widgetBucks.com. I would not even link to those people.

WidgetBucks.com titles says “ADs sucks, but our do not ..”. Basically, they have nicely designed widget that has links to products, mainly for Amazon.com. Their widget is quite heavy, it will slow your page download time.

As I spend significant amount of time everyday on Digital Point forums, I read that many web masters find widgetbucks.com paying far away more than adsense. That was few days after their company started providing ADs. Well, I kept reading positive reviews about it, and I decided to give it a shot. I was skeptic about it, but it worth giving it a shot.

I went to their site, I read their terms and conditions and then applied. I added their widget to one of my highest traffic web sites, which gets around half million page views per month. My first placement was combined with ADsense, it was small rectangle in quite bad location in the page. I started making around 10 cents per click, which is much better than adsense for that site (it is quite poor niche). That widget was music, I decided to replace it with electronics widget, since I want to make more money from these widgets. I did, and I started making around 33 cents per click. I was making around 40-50 USD per day from them.

Well, as I was sitting in the Leavy library fourth floor thinking about it, I realized that it is too good to be true. My traffic is mainly from middle east, and this traffic will not converge to money. I kept it and I was really suspicious.

I realized the widgetbucks.com nice team edit my earning later to reduce it! Hard to believe, but they do that with everyone. They reduce my clicks to 8 cents (from 33 cents). That was still fine, it is still paying for me more than Google Adsense.

Recently, I decided to remove the music widget, since I replaced it by the electronics widget. I went to their site, and I deleted it, and guess what!?! WidgetBucks.com deleted the widget earning!!!! Wooow, they even do not track clicks well, if I decided to remove widget?! I realized that they are a joke or big scam. I decided to give it a shot and call their Head Quarters, and I did many times. And, Guess what? They did not reply at all!

I sent them an email to ask for clarification, and they replied by banning my account. I strongly believe that WidgetBucks.com (I call it WidgetSucks.com) is a big scam or a funny joke. They did not pay to any one, as they pay after 90+ days. As such, do not bother trying those guys.

Google Adsense program is fair enough, they give you what you worth, and they take what they worth.

Conclusions:

• WidgetBucks is new site, and never ever paid to anyone, so do not take risk and try them.
• Adsense is stable program for the our lovely search engine; Google! Stay with it.
• I am not the only one who has that attitude from WidgetBucks, google it and see.

For your web site pages, you must consider optimizing the following elements in every page. The elements are sorted by importance (at least in my opinion).

• Page title.
• Page URL.
• Page headers (h1, h2, etc.).
• Content.
• Click depth
• Internal navigation
• Meta tags description and keywords.
• Alt tags for every image.
• The use of bold or italic for the keywords you are trying to optimize.

Page title is the most important element, you must not have duplicate titles in your entire site or the Search Engines will be wondering which page should rank for that title. Every page must have its title, headers, and content to be considered different by search engines.

In my off page optimization post, i mentioned the importance of gaining back links from other web sites to your website pages. It is also very important to have a proper internal navigation within the site itself. That is, your users can navigate the site, and all the time, they can find link to take them to any previous page in their path.

In this regard, i would recommend having a breadcrumb trail, that contains each page the user went through to reach his current page. Usually breadcrumb trail links separated by greater than sign “>”. Breadcrumb trail helps crawler to crawl your web site, and it distributes page rank among your web site pages.

I would like to give a short SEO tip. Many people think that domain name can be useful for SEO. They may consider buying keyword rich domains to rank for these keywords.

Domain name will NOT help you to rank. Domain name can be useful for SEO only in cases of exact match between the keyword and your domain name, and this is not going to be useful for competitive keywords.

The summary of this post, try to pick a domain name that is easy for your visitors to remember, try to be creative in choosing domain name. Do not be so generic, people bored from generic domain names. Do not overuse dashes for the sake of Search engines. If I were you, i would not use any special character since it makes it hard for your visitors to type your domain.

Off page optimization is by far the most important aspect in SEO. Off page SEO mainly refer to the number and quality of back links pointing at your web site.

To make it clear, you will NOT rank without high quality back links for any competitive keyword. Some websites gain natural links since people find these websites useful, probably for their content or for free tools they provide. However, majority of web sites do not get back links naturally, in that case, you really need to start link building campaign.

Link building! What is that? It is the process of gaining links from other web sites to your home page and to your sub pages (deep links). Will any link from any web site be useful? No.Your links should be from related web sites, with decent page rank.

Can I buy 1000 domains, and link to my site from each of them? Thats quite useless. Links from Page Rank zero domain is quite useless.

How can I gain links? There are enormous number of techniques that I will start blogging about to help you to rank.

Link building techniques include:

1. buying links
2. Web directories submission
3. Link exchange with partners
4. Article submission
5. Leave insightful comments on blogs
6. Press releases
7. Social bookmarking

I will write about the quality of link in the next few days in details. Then, I will explain in details, how to gain links using different techniques that will help your ranking.

In the past, search engines were using mainly meta tags for their scoring algorithms. However, their importace is far less nowadays.
However, you should have meta tags. Meta tags still included in ranking algorithm, they may help a little in ranking. Furthermore, search engines use the meta tag description in the snippet on their result pages. If you write persuasive meta tags, you may gain more convergence.

Make sure that your meta tags related to your page, it is very trivial to detect if it is not related by search engines.

For this factor, I feel that I do not need to write since everyone knows how important it is. Having a proper and unique content with proper grammar is going to make a big difference. In this regard, i would like to say:

1) Each landing page on your site need to have a proper and unique content. That means, your content must not be copied from somewhere else.
2) Try to define, and talk about the main keywords in your landing page. More does not mean that you define or mention it 100 times. As long as what you are writing will not sound silly and annoying for you when you read it, it is going to be fine also when search engines read it.
3) Read about copyrighting. It is the way people write for search engines. I will blog about SEO copyrighting later.

What is a landing page? It is a page that you write to target one or few keywords. It must be also usable by normal users.

I posted last week about page structure and headers and their relation to SEO, today I would like to clarify something. The point i want to clarify that search engines will not care if you use h1, h2, and h3, they try to extract the featured elements in your page. That is, if you use h1, h2, and h3 and you modify the default styles to have the same font size for all headers and normal text, search engine will not assume that the data inside these headers is featured. You should give your page main header a bigger font than any other text on your page, otherwise, it is not featured on the page, and you are less likely to rank for the keywords in that header. Wait a minute, using a big font size, does not mean you will rank for it, it is one of the many things that you need to do, which i will write about it later.

Thus, your page main header (h1) which is usually close to the body tag should be relatively bigger than h2, h2 font size relatively bigger than h3 and h3 font size relatively bigger than your normal text font size.

If you feel that you need to have more than one h1 header, I would recommend you to have new pages, one for each h1 header.
